Network Planning and Design.

One of the most overlooked aspects in implementing a new network or rebuilding an outdated one is the planning of the network.  The company’s IT network is the backbone of their business as it will connect all electronic devices, such as computers, tablets, security, phones and others to work efficiently across the organization.

Network design is the essential planning phase of your IT infrastructure.  A well-designed network can increase productivity as well as decrease workload on key hardware.  Designing a network diagram helps act as a guide for placement before implementation.

Things you should consider while designing.

• Layout of the facility
• Location of the servers and all cabling
• IP structure
• Application processes
• Security
• Temperature control of IT room
• Space requirements
• The future of growth

Do not skip the planning phase.  Some business owners will think it’s a simple process and can be eliminated but it’s essential.   Being able to visualize the infrastructure as well as outline any new hardware and software is crucial to help ensure you don’t end up for an inefficient network a few years later.

Other things to consider is actual bandwidth.  Who is providing you your highspeed internet connectivity to the world.  If you want to do things such as cloud programs or video conferencing, then you will need to insure you have enough bandwidth (speed) to accomplish these tasks.  Think about future scenarios and plan accordingly.
